Directors’ full names are required on the Companies Register

On the Companies Register, we require directors to provide their full name, as they appear on their passport or driver’s licence. The names must match these details exactly (down to abbreviated middle names, for example John A. Smith).

What happens if the names don’t match

If the name doesn’t match the passport or driver’s licence details, your request for authority to manage company information on the Companies Register may be rejected, meaning you won’t be able to update company details or file an annual return.

Whether you are a director of a company or an authorised person acting on behalf of a company, you must have authority to manage company information on the Companies Register.

For more information about the company authority, refer to our Getting authority to update company records guide.
